Reading Analysis

For the most part, Max can read most of the words on the page. He seems to decode the text by doing a lot of sounding out of words. His fluency is reading is therefore somewhat disjointed. He is reading mostly to put sounds to the text he sees on the page and not for comprehension. He reads at a faster pace than he actually comprehends, which results in substitution, insertions, and omissions. Even though he says that he understood the book, it is evident by his answers to the questions that he doesn’t fully comprehend the meaning of the text. When asked, Max doesn’t understand the meaning behind the text “their beds felt too big and too quiet.”
